What is AfterPay?
AfterPay’s payment platform gives shoppers the choice to pay for their purchases via 4 simple, interest-free installments.
AfterPay is a platform built for shoppers that empowers you to buy now, pay over time, and avoid interest repayments.
How do I use AfterPay?
You don’t need to register prior to making your first Afterpay purchase.
When you are making a purchase with one of our favorite stores found in the Shop Directory, simply choose Afterpay as your payment method at checkout. If it’s your first time using Afterpay, you will provide payment details as usual to complete your purchase.
Once your first order is approved, your Afterpay account is created. All you need to do is visit www.afterpay.com to set up a password, and you will be able to make more purchases using Afterpay by simply entering your log in details upon checkout.
To be eligible to use the Installment Feature, you must:
(a) be an individual who is at least 18 years old (19 years old in Alabama or if you are a ward of the state in Nebraska);
(b) be a resident of the United States and reside within one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia;
(c) be capable of entering into a legally binding contract;
(d) have a valid and verifiable email address and mobile telephone number;
(e) provide a valid delivery address in the United States; and
(f) be authorized to use the Payment Method provided.
How are you approved? How is limit determined with AfterPay?
Afterpay does not approve 100% of orders. We are committed to ensuring we support responsible spending.
When determining which orders to approve, we consider a number of different factors. As an example, the longer you have been a shopper using Installments by Afterpay and the more orders you have successfully repaid, the more likely you will be able to spend more.
Why is AfterPay declining my card?
Some reasons AfterPay might decline your transaction include:
– are there sufficient funds on your card (generally we look to see the first installment amount of the order value available to spend on the card you are using)
– length of time you have been using Afterpay (tighter in the first 6 weeks)
– amount you have to repay, it may help to pay some off (not a guarantee)
– the value of the order you are trying to place, it may help to reduce the value of your shopping cart (not a guarantee)
– the number of orders you currently have ‘open’ with us (not a guarantee)
Whilst we know it can be frustrating to not know exactly how much you can spend each time or how many active orders you can have, our rules and approval process help Afterpay responsibly offer a completely free service to our customers.
Why are there pending charges on my bank statement?
You have likely not been charged. When you make a purchase request with the AfterPay App, we pre-authorize your payment card for the first installment for 25% of the value of your purchase request.
If the charge is not successful then the pre-authorization will be cancelled. This usually takes 24-48 hours, although in some cases this can take up to 10 business days.
Why was I charged for a cancelled purchase?
If a purchase request is cancelled before making a purchase, you may see the pending charge disappear, or a pending credit for the same amount appear (these will cancel out in your account). These will also fall away, usually in a couple of days.
A final authorization is made that will reflect the first installment amount once you complete your order and your card is actually charged – since your order was successful that authorization will post to you card as your first installment payment.

What if I can’t pay an AfterPay installment?
Afterpay is committed to making sure you stick to your repayment plan.
That’s why we consider every purchase application before we approve that purchase. And that’s why we are always sending you reminders when a payment is almost due.
If you are facing hardship, we have hardship policy that allows us to work with you to get you back on track.
As soon as you miss a payment, we will immediately stop you from making any further purchases with Afterpay. This is because of our commitment to the high standards we set ourselves for responsible spending.

When will my items be delivered if I use AfterPay?

Can I return items purchased using AfterPay?
Did you already make a return? Are you expecting a refund?
After you return your order to the merchant, they will process it.
Refunds are processed on your account as soon as the merchant notifies AfterPay of the return, any payments made to date will be refunded back to you and any future scheduled payments will be canceled.
The status and details on your refund are reflected in the Orders tab and within the order details. Once your refund has been applied to your account, it will appear at the top of your order details.
If you are expecting a refund, please note that the installments are still due until we have received notification of the return from the merchant.
